Objectives

  • To give each student a meaningful, learner-centered classroom experience in an institution which is the symbol of excellence in higher education.

  • To impart quality education in all the fields of study so as to make the students acquire in-depth knowledge of their chosen subjects.

  • To help students make the transition from technical competence / theoretical knowledge they acquire to a practical / experiential dimension of learning and application to real-life situations.

  • To inculcate in students a sense of belonging, love for and loyalty towards their alma mater.

  • To give an all-round development to the students' personality and bring out the perfection which each person has been invested by nature.

  • To enable the students to make the best use of their degrees acquired from the College and fit to survive in the world of challenges once their course of study in the College is complete.

  • To transform the students into mature individuals and true global citizens.


Nizam College stands for QUALITY in Higher Education

Quest for Excellence: In the classroom, in the arena of research and in co-curricular / extra curricular activities, the college is on a constant quest for excellence as can be seen from the activities calendar. Recently a distinguished alumnus Sri Shyam Benegal said he acquired excellence in his student days in Nizam College not only from his teachers but by peer interaction. So from this year we are introducing a unique Peer Exchange Programme (PEP) where any student who has exceptional knowledge, awareness, skills and competence can share it with his/her peers.
Understanding the Concept: The College has understood, disseminated and enhanced the concept of excellence through the 120 years of its existence and continues to do so. As a celebration of this, excellence in numerous academic and other fields marked the year-long 120-years celebration from Feb 2008 to December 2008.
Action-oriented: To actualize the concept of excellence, Nizam College has numerous concrete projects-post-doctoral research of faculty, students engaged in projects in the industry, students who excel in the world of sports, numerous seminars/workshops for all levels of the College from Class IV employees, through non-teaching and teaching staff to students.
Learner-centric Approach: Learning is a lifelong process for the Nizamian. Inside the classroom, the teaching methodology is learner-centred. Many departments have prepared new text books/materials effective from 2009-10 which illustrates this. Every department is also constantly foregrounding the learner; and teachers are now settled in their role as facilitators. Student activities abound in the curricular calendar.
Innovation for Change: Our goal of excellence is a progressing target which expands with time. The list of special academic programmes spell out the varieties of innovation at the institutional level. But the excellence of our teaching faculty rests on their individual ability to implement innovations in the classroom. This is periodically evaluated in seminars such as "Innovative Classroom Strategies" held in May 2009.
Training to Build Competencies: Students find the college a vibrant training ground for all-round development. Their academic training is measured by continuous evaluation and the results speak eloquently of their competency in their subjects of study. They are also given training in soft skills, personality development, computers, getting placements and any other field they need. Remedial training programmes are being conducted by all the major departments of the college.
Year-long Activity: The College is a hub of activity not only during the 15-week semester but much activity happens even during vacations. The non-vacation staff is given self-improvement programmes, students are given competitive exams coaching (especially under the Cinorities Cell). Other relevant and beneficial activities are also taken up as the activities calendar will tell you.
