In the city of Hyderabad, Nizam College has occupied a prestigious position. Nizam College was established in the year 1883. In the year 1910 Dept. of Telugu was established. The first Professor in the Department of Telugu was Shri. Raiprolu Venkatarama Somayajulu. He worked in Nizam college from 1910-1930, late in the year 1942 Shri. Kuruganti Seetharamaya took charge. During his tenure, he began 'Telugu Saraswatha Samiti' for the students. He organized many literature oriented sessions. Many great scholars from all over Andhra Pradesh used to visit sessions. In 1950 Garikipati Lakshmikantiah worked as a lecturer in the Department. Nizam College has seen many students and scholars who had later become the prominent lecturer’s of the Dept. To name few like, Prof. Kandavally. Lakshmiranjanam, Prof. Birudhuraju Ramaraju 'Gnannapeta' awarde Prof. C. Narayan Reddy, Prof. Gopala Krishna Rao etc.. Telangana Poets like, Dasharadhi Krishnamacharylu, Davullapali Ramanuja Rao, Burugula Ranganath Rao, etc... Department of Telugu was initially began only for the Intermediate students and later on extended for both Under Graduates students as (Modern Language) and in the year 1982 for Post Graduates students, because of which this college was associated with Osmania University and other constituent colleges. After repeated trials from 2009-2010. Department of Telugu was introduced in Nizam College. At present 700 students opt for Telugu as 'Second language' and 100 students as 'Special Language'. Department of Telugu has 90 students at M.A. Level. Many lecturers who has worked in Osmania University and also worked at Nizam College. In August 2008,'Girijana Samskurti-Language, Sahityala Adyayanam' began in collaboration with UGC. This organization stared with Dr. M. Gonanaik, Prof. Eluri Shiva Reddy, Prof. Chintala Yadaiah, and Prof. Veldanda Nityananda Rao who worked at Nizam College. At present Prof. M. Bagaiah is Head, Department of Telugu, Dr. Sagi Kamalakar Sharma, Asst. Prof., Dr. O. Krishnaiah (Asst. Prof-c), Part Time Lecturers- Dr. P. Nagender, Dr. K. Narender, Dr. M. Srikanth Kumar, Mr. N. Sarath and Mr. D. Rambabu. Every year Department of Telugu organizes 'Telugu Basha Dinotsavam'. Apart from this, the Students also conduct 'Guru Pujoutsovam' for the Lecturers in the Department. The students who had completed their U.G & P.G. Courses in the Department of Telugu, Nizam College, have got good placements in both private sectors and Government sectors also.
His research experience is 30 years. Teach- ing experience 30 years. He has worked as Director, A.P.Govt. Oriental Manuscripts Li- brary and Research lnstiture, Hyderabad in the year during 2004-2005. Now working as Head, Dept. of Telugu in Nizam College from 2009 onwords. He published 15 research books. He participated and presented research papers about 50 in National and International seminars. One major research project completed entitled "Preparation of comprehensive commentary on Accha Telugu Ramayana". Now major research project running one year completed titled "Research project on Yakshaganas in Telugu with special reference to Telangana." Now he is member and activities major social works like, President, General Secre- tary, Secretary in various Educational Institutions in Hyderabad, Selection committee mem- ber and governing body memeber in somany social organizations in the State. Under his guideship 12 Ph.D.s. and M.phil.s. He Edited and printed "Sri Ramanjaneya Yuddam" drama from manuscripts.
Dr. S. Kamalakara Sharma, got his MA (Telugu) in 1994, MA (Sanskrit), 2000, MA (Jyothisha), 2001, MA (English), 2004 and MA (Philosophy), 2008. He was awarded Ph.D. in 2004. His areas of specialisation are Telugu Literature and Astrological Studies. His areas of interest are Classical Literature and Astrology. He has published around 100 articles in various magazines; other publications include Jyothirmayam Vangmayam, Janapadula Jyothin/ignanam, Jyothisha kamalakaram and Andarikee jyothisham. He is the Editor of Literary research monthly magazine "MUSl" also Astrological monthly maga- A zine "Jyothirvastu Vignanam". He edited number of other books like Bharateeyam, Sharthkiranam, Jyothirvaidyam, Medini Jyothisham-Prapanch Gocharam like Year edi- tions about 10 books. He is co-ordinator for M.A., VedicAstrology, PGRRCDE, Osmania University. He is the Editor for 6 books and course writer about 55 lessons. Participated and presented research papers in 3 InternationalConferences, and 10 National and state level seminars. 6 Ph.Ds in Telugu, 3Ph.Ds in Astrology researchers are working with him. He is member B.O.S. UG for OU, Telugu Dept and Member BOS forAstrology dept. P.S. Telugu Univer- sity. He worked as a PRO for Nizam College and Head of the Department in 2008-09 academic year. Working as a student councellor -Arts for Nizam college. He has several awards and honours to his credit including UGC-NET, UGC-JRF, Some other awards are ”Ramaraju Janapada Vignana Puraskar", ”Rashtriya Vikas Siromani Puraskar - New De/hi". He was honoured with Andhra Bhasha Bhushana, Jyothisha Pra veena, Jyothisha Visharada, Daivagna Ratha, Jyothisha Siromani, Jyothisha Marthanda, Jyothin/idya Bhushana like 15 titles. He is media-friendly acade- mician with several radio talks and media appearances to his credit.
Dr. O. Krishnaiah is working as Assistant Professor (C) in Department of Telugu Since 2005. He is dealing with UG and PG (both Second Language and Modern Lan- guage) courses. He awarded Ph.D. in 2004 from Osmania University forthe research in "Palamuru Zilla Kavula Charitra". His specialization is Modern Poetry. His is the Resource Person for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad. He has worked various col- leges. He was also the Project Fellow in the Major Project on "Socio - Linguistic study of Mahaboobnagar District (Collection and Analysis of Mahaboobnagar District Dialects) funded by UGC. He has actively participated and hosted two National Seminars organized by the Department of Telugum Osmania University. His participations as a speaker in TV channels, as a Judge of various competitions and as a paper setter of academic institu- tions. He has published one article "Achamaina Telangana Yasa - Yashadamma Mata" in Musi Telugu Monthly, Aug 2011.
