The Department was started in 1887. Sanskrit was offered as a Second Language and as an Optional Subject in Intermediate at initial level. B.A., B.Com. & B.Sc. Courses started with Sanskrit as Second Language and as an optional (Classical Language). Junior and Senior Diploma’s Self Financed (Evening Courses) started in 1990. Sanskrit was an optional (Classical Language) subject 1990-2002. Junior and Senior Diploma’s Self Financed (Evening Courses) were offered up to 2006.
The Scholars of National and International repute like Professor Kuruganti Sitaramaiah, Garikapati Lakshmikanthaiah, Prof. B. R. Shastry, Prof.K. Kamala and Dr. Ananda Tirtha Varkhedkar were associated with the Department of Sanskrit.
At present there are 305(236 Boys & 69 Girls) students studying Sanskrit as a second language in various streams at Under Graduate level. Dr. Vidyanand Arya (Head of the Department) and Dr.K. Venkateswarlu (Assistat Professor(C) ) are the faculty in the Department of Sanskrit. The syllabus of 1st and 2nd semesters was revised in 2009 and syllabus of 3rd and 4th semesters was revised in 2010.
The faculty of the Department of Sanskrit is publishing research papers in National and International seminars. Department faculties have presented 40 research papers in national and international seminars. 4 books and 22 Research papers of faculties have been published in various National and International journals. Dr. Vidyanand Arya, who is Head of the Department, is monitoring a Major Project of UGC (2009-2011). There are 252 books available in the Seminar Library of Sanskrit Department.
In future, The Department plans to organize National Seminars, Sanskrit day celebrations and planning to invite lecturers and professors for guest lectures. Department is planning to offer junior and senior diplomas in Sanskrit. And the Department is planning to re-introducing the B.A. Optional Subject as Classical Language.
Dr Vidyananda Arya is a post graduate and doctorate from Osmania University. His area of interest and specializations are ancient Sanskrit grammar (prachin vyakaran ) and yoga philosophy. Recently he has completed a major research project funded by UGC. He has participated in 20 national and 5 international seminars. His 12 various research papers and articles were published in various journals and magazines. He coordinated 1 national seminar and one workshop on Sanskrit computational linguistic. He was the editor of two different college journals. He is the chairperson of board of studies (Sanskrit) at Nizam College. He was general warden of Nizam College hostel for three years (2008-2011). He also visited South Africa to promote Sanskrit. He got three gold medals .one for achieving highest marks in M A (Sanskrit ) and other for achieving highest marks in all over arts faculty. He is the recipient of Dr D S Reddy memorial gold medal award. He was rewarded by Panini title by virjanand smarak trust for memorizing the renowned book asthadhyayi written by Panini. He has four years of teaching experience at PG level in D P B S PG college anupshehar bulandshehar CCS university meerut before joining the University service.
Dr K venkateshwarulu is a post graduate and doctorate from Osmania University. His area of interest and specialization is Kavya Sastra- “Rajatarangini of Kalhana and Arthashastra. He did B.C.J from Osmania University, DPCS (Computers course) from NCVT. He qualified NET-UGC exam in the year 1999. He joined Nizam college services on 27-09-1997 as part time lecturer and as an academic consultant from 2001 to 2010, and as Assistant Professor Contract from 2011 onwards. He has participated in 17 national seminars and his 05 research articles are published 10 are accepted to be published in various journals. He authored ‘Rajatarangini of Kalhana- a study of socio-economic and political conditions. This book is released by Dr. Karan Singh well known Kashmirian. He attended 01 orientation course in Value education, 01 refresher course in Sanskrit.
Prof. A . Ramulu joined university services on 12 Feb. 1992.He did his M A in Sanskrit (gold medal), M A history, M A telugu and Ph D in sanskrit from Osmania University .His area of specializations are Mimansa Philosphy/ scientific Sanskrit/ poetics. He has produced 4 M.Phils and 4 Ph.D s. He is also resource person for 5 refresher courses. He authored 20 books and 41 various articles. He also participated in 6 international and 32 national seminars. He conducted 6 workshops on various subjects. He was honored by “Vidya marthanda” title by creative literature and education Hyd and " Mimamsa Sastra Pandita " by sarva vaidika samstanam karimnagar. He is member of American biographical institute USA and chairman of board of studies in Sanskrit Osmania University. He is vice president of A P hindi academy secundrabad and member in Board of studies (Sanskrit) PSR telugu university Hyd and S.V university Tirupati. At present he is teaching as a professor Dept. of Sanskrit at Osmania University.
Mr B. Raju did his M A (Sanskrit) from Osmania University. He joined nizam college services on 17-10-2006 as part time lecturer at department of Sanskrit. He used to teach 1st year under graduate students. He worked here till March 2007.
Dr . Karuna reddy did M A in Sanskrit.she joined nizam college on 17-10-2006 she used to teach 2nd year undergraduate students. She worked here up to march 2007
