DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

Commerce Department was started at Nizam College in the year 1940. Since then, B.Com Degree course has been offered in the department . In the year 1970, M.Com. Course was introduced at P.G.College, Basheerbagh. At the time, P.G.College, Basheerbagh, M.Com. Course with costing and Taxation specialization, was shifted to Nizam College, upgrading Commerce Department into a Post Graduate Department.
In the year 1995, B.Com Vocational course in Foreign Trade Practices &Procedures was offered with the intake of 30 students. This course is offered as a self-financing vocational course leading to B.Com degree. It was funded by the UGC till 1998-99. The course is found to be the most popular among vocational subjects. The focus areas in this corse are on financing of foreign trade, shipping and insurance, Export-import procedure and documentation, and entrepreneurship. A large number of guest faculties drawn from various establishments offer extension/Guest Lectures. Final year students of this course have to write the ‘Project Report’ work based on 'On-the-Job-Training' during the summer vacation. Project report writing is taken under the guidance of the department of commerce.
As shown below in the table form, there are total 388 students in the Department.Out of which 68 students are Foreign national students from the following countries : Ethiopia, Somalia, Iran, Jordan, Yaman,Oman, Kenya,Tanzania,Saudi Arabia and Maldives.
B.Com E-Commerce was started in the year 1999-2000 with the intake of 30 students.Information Technology now being a part of everyday life a study of E-Commerce has become necessary.Learning E-Commerce is the new way of conducting, managing and executing business transactions and services through electronic media and telecommunication networks.
The Department has developed an air-conditioned Commerce Computer Lab for all the students of B.Com and M.Com . This lab comprises of 40 systems, 01 Printer and software required to meet the requirements of B.Com. E-Commerce and all other Commerce courses.
Audio-Visual equipment has been purchased and regularly used for effective teaching purpose. LCD Projector, Lap Top, OHP, TV, Scanner have been purchased for the department.
Educational tours, on the job training , industrial visits, Port visits, Extension/Guest lectures are regularly arranged by the Department.
In the year 1995-96, the department is upgraded, as a faculty of commerce and Head of Department is also the Chairman, Board of Studies. At present, the Department has 14 faculty members comprising of 2 professors, 2 Associate professors, 10 Academic Consultants, 02 part-time faculty and one lab programmer. The faculty has completed some major and minor research projects,undertaken 2 minor research projects (UGC-SERO and SAP), published several books and research papers in National and International professional journals.The department has been regularly organixing seminars, workshops, guest lectures, extension lectures and group discussions. The faculty has been presenting research papers in various National and International Conferences/Seminars. Faculty members are also the members of academic council and/or Governing Body membes of the affiliated colleges of Osmania University.
The university faculty members are also guiding research students for M.Phil,Ph.D degree and many students are awarded degree. The main areas of research include Business Economics, Financial Management, Financial Institutional Investment, Cost & Management , Marketing Management, Industrial Economics, Banking , Real Estate and Services Management.
In the year 2000-01, as per the approval of UGC, M.Com course was offered with the change in specialization, which is 'International Business' .Apart from the regular teaching, specialists in the areas of International Investment Management and Security Analysis & Portfolio Management are being invited from the local sources to give extension/guest lectures.

Professor and Head of the Department

His areas of interest and specializations are Organisation Theory and Behaviour, Industrial Economics, Taxation, Micro Finance and Micro Financial institutions. He has been adjudged as Best Commerce teacher by IPA. Under his guidance 12 scholars have been awarded M.Phil., and 3 scholars have been awarded Ph.D. 9 scholars are pursuing Ph.D, 6 scholars are pursuing M.Phil. He has published 33 papers in several journals and 14 paper presentations in various seminars. He has authored 3 books for Centre for Distance Education Osmania University. He has organized National Workshops, Industrial Meets and Training Programmes, Management meets, Orientation seminars, and local workshops. He is working on 'Cost effective and Sustainability of micro enterprises in AP' sanctioned by UGC as Major Project. He worked as NSS Programme Officer in which 10 special camps conducted in various villages and inculcated sense of volunteerism and created awareness about water borne diseases. He also conducted programmes like Creative hour, Just a Minute to enhance and sharpen the Communication skill of the students. At present he is the Head of the Department of Commerce Nizam College.

Her areas of interest and specializations are Industrial Economics, Marketing, Taxation, Cost Accounting and CRM. Under her guidance 3 scholars have been awarded M.PHIL and 6 scholars are pursuing PH.D. She published 9 papers in reputed journals. She has organized 2 International Seminars. She has edited 3 books, and co-authored 1 book. She has organized 2 National Workshops, 3 Industrial Meets and 2 Training Programmes. She has applied for a UGC Major Project. She was the Students advisor at University College for Women, Koti, was the Coordinator, M.COM (IS), Osmania University and at present she is the Coordinator for the M.B.A course at Nizam College. Best Commerce Faculty award was conferred on her by IPA, 2005. She is the life member of APEA, ICA and IAA.

Dr.T.Krishna Kumar M.Com
Professor

Dr.T. Krishna Kumar has done M.Com from Osmania University in the year 1982. He was awarded Ph.D in Management from Osmania University for his work on Entrepreneurship in Small Industry. He has got more than 20 years of teaching experience. Presently he is working in the Department of Commerce as a professor. Dr.Krishna Kumar has published more than 20 articles in the areas of Entrepreneurship, Organisational Behaviour and Corporate Governance. At present Dr. Krishna Kumar is focusing on people management related subjects.

Dr.C .V .Ranjani joined the University in June 2007. She did her M.Com in 1995, Ph.D in 2006, and M.B.A in 2008 from Osmania University. She was awarded Gold Medal for securing highest aggregate in college for M.Com. She has various publications in reputed journals. She presented many papers in different seminars at various levels. She also attended workshops, Orientation Programmes and Refresher Courses and Faculty Development Programmes.

She has been working in the Department of Commerce since 1999. Her areas of interest and specializations are Taxation, Accounting, Business Statistics. She Completed her Ph.D. form OU in 2009. She has participated in National and international seminars on various topics, she has published 2 articles in professional journal. She has presented 7 papers. She has been awarded with Best Business Academic of the Year (BBAY) - Gold Medal for the best paper presentation on “Corporate Reporting Practices – An Analysis of Investors Perceptions” at the 61st All India Commerce Conference, 2008. She has been rapporteur for various seminars. She is guiding M.Com students in completing their projects. She is a Life member of Indian Commerce Association and Indian Accounting Association.

He has been working in the department since 2005-06 to till date teaching UG and PG students. He played a key role in framing syllabus for B.Com E-commerce for the 2009-2010 academic year. He is guiding the B.Com(E-Com) Final year Students in completing their Live Projects more than 85 projects since 2005-2006 to till date. His specialization areas are advanced topics of Information Technologies such as J2EE, .Net, and also with Web Technologies Exposure such as Flash , Photoshop, Dream Weaver, PHP. He worked as a Software Developer for Andrapradesh Commissionarate, Hyderabad in developing E- Challan project from 2004-2006

He has done M.Com from Nizam College Osmania University during 2005-07. He has been working in the Department of Commerce as an Asst., Professor(C) since 2011. His areas of interest and specializations are Financial Accounting and Corporate Accounting. He is Pursuing Ph.D. in the Department of Business Management, Osmania University, Hyderabad, on “Marketing of Milk and Milk Products - A Selective Study of Mulkanoor Women Co-operative Dairy” He has participated in National and international seminars and Workshops.
