The Department of Commerce in Nizam College was established in the sixties and has been offering undergraduate course in commerce i.e. B Com (general). In the eighties Post Graduate course was added to the Department. With the granting of Autonomy to the college, the Department started Vocational course in Foreign Trade known as B Com (Foreign Trade Practices and Procedure). B Com. (e-Commerce) course was started in 2000-01. However, B Com (Foreign Trade) course has been discontinued since 2005. In September 2006 the department started a Certificate course called E. Commerce and Web Developer. This is an Add On course and University Grants Commission, New Delhi is providing the seed money. There are about four hundred students in the Commerce Department studying in First, Second and Third year of B.Com (regular and e- Commerce) and M Com (previous and final). Of them nearly sixty students are from foreign countries like Somalia, Ethiopia, Jibouti, Uganda, Kenya, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Iran and Afghanistan. Again there are around sixty girl students and many of them are foreigners. There is continuous effort to upgrade the syllabus of both Under Graduate and Post-Graduate Courses. Fundamentals of Information Technology and Data Based MS were introduced in B.Com II and III yr in 2002. Mathematics along with statistics was introduced in 2001. At the Post-graduate level, this is the only college in Andhra Pradesh, which offers International Business as specialization in the third and fourth semesters. MBA programme has been introduced from the academic year 2007 and 2008. The Department has a computer lab comprising forty systems and four printers. The Department also has a LCD and an Overhead Projector. Book, both for the UG and PG are available at the college Library. Every year about hundred plus books are added to the Library. The Department is proud to announce the launching of a Journal called Osmania University Journal of International Business and the inaugural issue was released in the National Conference on Insurance Reforms Opportunities and Challenges, held on 18th and 19th of August 2006 in the Centenary Hall, Nizam College. The faculty members have organized a number of National Seminars in the past.
Her areas of interest and specializations are Industrial Economics, Marketing, Taxation, Cost Accounting and CRM. Under her guidance 3 scholars have been awarded M.PHIL and 6 scholars are pursuing PH.D. She published 9 papers in reputed journals. She has organized 2 International Seminars. She has edited 3 books, and co-authored 1 book. She has organized 2 National Workshops, 3 Industrial Meets and 2 Training Programmes. She has applied for a UGC Major Project. She was the Students advisor at University College for Women, Koti, was the Coordinator, M.COM (IS), Osmania University and at present she is the Coordinator for the M.B.A course at Nizam College. Best Commerce Faculty award was conferred on her by IPA, 2005. She is the life member of APEA, ICA and IAA.
