The Department of Botany was started in the year 1956 with graduation and became a postgraduate centre in 1980 offering M.Sc. in Biological Sciences. Within a couple of years M.Sc. Botany replaced M.Sc. Biological Sciences with Mycology and Molecular Plant Pathology as specialization. At present the Department of Botany offering only B.Sc with B.Z.C and Bt.B.C combination with a total student strength of 180. For over a quarter century, this Department has been recognized as a research center providing facilities for research in Mycology and Plant Pathology, Ecology, Chemotaxonomy, Embryology and Anatomy.
