Department of Urdu
The Department of Urdu is the oldest Department in Nizam College established in 1887. Urdu is offered as a second language at UG level and also as one of the optionals (Modern Language) to the students of B.A. degree course. Besides a full timer, part time teachers are also involved in handling the classes. Extension lectures and literary activities are regular feature of the Department. Urdu festival is organised every year. In this regard various competitions are conducted in Urdu language. |

Dr.S.A.Shukoor joined service on Jan 13 1992 and is Associate Professor since 2004. He got his MA in 1985, M.Phil. in 1990 and Ph.D. in 2004. |
| His area of specialisation is Modern Urdu Literature and interest areas are Modern Literature and translation. He has published several reviews of literary works published in national and international journals and one of the most significant work is Unwan Chisti Shaks Aur Sha'ur (1995). He has organised various national and state level seminars and symposiums along with Mushairas chaired by eminent personalities like P.A. Sangma, Rajesh Pilot to name a few. He is a member of various advisory and department committees and held the positions of President and Secretary of OUTA, National Integration Conference, AP Minorities Protection Committee etc. He also received special invitation from Govt. of Saudi Arabia to visit Saudi Arabia in 'Haj Delegation' July 1992. |
