Department of Persian
The Department of Persian was established in the year 1887 and is one of the oldest Departments of the College. Persian language is one of the most important Indo-European languages of the world. Most of the literature of medieval period is in Persian. It is one of those few languages of the world which has been used for literary, academic, administrative and diplomatic purposes.
In consonance with the importance of Persian, it is offered at UG levels as Classical language and as Second language. The students are also trained in the career perspective as interpreters since Persian is used in various travel and tourist agencies and in the area of sports too. The Department has been served by teachers of international repute. From the past six years the Department is being supported by two faculty members on contract. The subject is of great demand for many foreign students from Iran, Tehran, Afghanistan, etc. |
