Department of Economics
The Department of Economics is one of the oldest departments in Nizam College. Currently the Department has 9 Teachers – 2 Professor, 4 Associate Professors and 3- Assistant Professors. The faculty is well qualified and is specialized in different fields such as International trade, Public finance, Demography, Development etc. Many of the teachers are well exposed to quantitative methods and economics tools. The teachers are well exposed to teaching and research at different levels. The department is offering UG and PG programmes. The faculty apart from engaging UG and PG programmes at the college level, are also engaged in MPhil teaching, MPhil guidance and PhD guidance at university level. Many teachers are also resources persons and often go and deliver extension lectures at different colleges and at different universities according to their specialisation. Professors of the faculty are members of governing bodies of few colleges and are also associated with different selection committees of various colleges as university nominees.
Apart from strengthening the UG syllabus, the department is introducing a Certificate Course in Quantitative Methods, on self finance basis. The department has well established seminar library with standard books and journals. The faculty regularly engages in research activities and the trust areas of the Department are Agriculture, Industry, Demography and Trade. During the last five years the faculty has published more than 40 papers in various reputed national and international journals. The Department is planning to introduce many certificate courses for the next five years. A beginning has been made with the introduction of a certificate course in quantitative methods from this year. Some of the other courses that are being planned are a certificate course in Banking & Finance and a certificate course in Insurance. Apart from these the department is planning with the permission of the university, to start MPhil and PhD programmes at the College. |
